News from Coffee Springs-Tuesday, September 21, 2004
Yesterday we finished cleaning the limbs and leaves from our yard and now virtually all signs of Ivan are gone. One can see some trees down as you drive on the roads and highways but none are still in the way or blocking the roads. The power utility and law enforcement people. They have done an exemplary job in restoring our necessities as well the comforts of life. In a major storm much work is created for these type people.
The mayor was down at the Senior Citizen’s Center today and he said, “If you see me with a young lady it is a news reporter.” They are doing a story about improvement to the springs. I think there are plans to have a swimming pool and kind of resort there. That has generated quite a bit of controversy in the past but now it is apparently settled and the project is progressing full speed ahead. Well, maybe not full speed but at least ahead.
Big on the news today is the “Tobacco Racketeering Trial.” It seems to me that an underlying assumption of the charges is that most people do not have sense enough to understand what a bad thing is for them and they are at the mercy of taking someone’s work for everything pertaining to their life. I don’t buy it. Even when I was young I knew for myself that smoking cigarettes were very bad for your health. I also think that anyone else who was honest believed the same thing in their hear. If I could figure it out when I was young and ignorant then I believe that anyone else could do the same. We have become a bunch of folks who hunt high and low for someone to blame, anyone except themselves. I believe it is height time for people to start taking responsibility for themselves.
