News from Coffee Springs Wednesday, September 15, 2004-
Coffee Springs is hunkered down today awaiting Ivan to make up its mind where it is going and how strong it will be when it gets there. Here we haven not had an oversupply of rain this year so perhaps the flooding effects will be somewhat mitigated. However, slow rains are better than fast ones for benefits to crops. Also this might not be the best time to receive lots of rain or any rain for that matter. Cotton and peanut harvest would benefit lots more from dry weather. I have noticed several people working very hard to get their peanuts dug before the rain. It is just not a good time for rain now but we have to take what we can get. The best case, though, is for the rain to move through in a hurry and not dump so much on us. The slow moving storms seem to be much worse than the “Jack Rabbit” type. At least the hurricanes have accomplished one thing, the news (fiction) networks have concentrated more on the storm than the trivia on which they are usually prone to dwell, i. e. celebrity trials, reality tv shows, etc. Also it really gets old in a hurry hearing “experts” pontificate on situations in order to display their “vast knowledge.”
